the other coast
The Wild West as I experienced it.
When I moved to California from Washington, DC I started a series inspired by my new surroundings. During this process I was trying really hard to find my way in a new environment; to find a community of artists to belong to (spoiler alert: I never found it). To me, this series was "work" in a way that I hadn't experienced art-making before. By the end, I was phoning it in. I had given myself the goal of putting together a series and creating a virtual gallery. I achieved this goal, so that was cool, but a handful of these pieces don't exist anymore because when I did subsequently, periodically, feel the urge to paint again I painted over them. On the other hand, a few did sell, and I do still love some of them very much ("Two Worlds" is probably my favorite).
